[Music |Phil Collins - . . . But, Seriously]

I've noticed it often happens that the clinching evidence for a point you've been trying to make for years doesn't turn up until after you've stopped looking. Then it pops up just to spite you.

Well, here's a video from the 30's that proves a couple of points I've been somewhat scoffed at for making over the last 10 years or so. It proves that there was a fandom for Furries in the 30's, because this video speaks to it directly. It also proves that Furries were known as "Cartoon Animals" at the time, rather than "Funny Animals," as many cockeyed historians insist.

But what looks most familiar to me is the spokesfur entreating the audience to overcome their stereotypes and appreciate that there's more to Furries than their popular image might lead them to expect. It seems even more telling that the other furs aren't terribly cooperative in helping him prove his point.

Ah well, I guess some things never change. Well, the world of humans changes, and over time Furry characters have had to adapt to the more serious obsessions of human kind. But deep down the Furries of today still have too much of their ancestors in them to ever take life as seriously as human kind does.

And that's why human kind simply can't do without Furries. If there were no Furries around to lighten the mood, humans would serious themselves to death.

Hey, there you are! I was beginning to worry about you...

My understanding's always been that cartoon animals were the anthropomorphic characters in animated cartoons, and funny animals were the anthropomorphic characters in the funnies. Same concept, just different media (film versus print).
