I have managed to put together a general plan for the rest of “The Planet Of Genetic Misadventure.” Well, not really. What I’ve been able to do is plot my way through and get the spontaneous detour I’ve been on since 2004 to synch up with the original ending I had written before I started publishing online.
That’s a real accomplishment that I had serious doubts I’ve be able to manage. And it took 500 pages. But there are about five side stories supposed to be going on in parallel to the main story that I’ve done hardly any work on.
There is The Halloween Story involving The AD Detectives. This story is potentially novel length in itself - an adventure that covers possibly 4 towns or more, including one that exists in secret from the other towns.
I have a “Die Hard” scenario set up with Jasper giving hell to a bunch of terrorists who have taken over The Rhoades Instruments Building. I have no experience what so ever designing the action for that kind of stealth and kill story.
There’s a suggested plot involving the Suburbia newspaper where Bixyl works. This basically involves a lot of arguing among the reporters and editors about the action going on in other stories, who the paper should support and why. This is mainly to support the political allegories that are already in play. But I’ve written nothing on this yet. Possibly I might do well to just knock this one out as I publish the episodes, rather than trying to plan arguments over events I haven’t even written yet.
Lastly, I have to do something with Jasper and Miyan. This is probably the most crucial side story to the episodes I’ve already published. The characters are too important to just let drop out of sight without coming up with a scenario that will expose the mysteries surrounding The Shadow Cat. All I have on this is a vague idea that I need to get a story going that will reveal what will happen to Jasper if he falls in love, and somehow Miyan has to find it in herself to save him from it. Otherwise, at this point, I got nothin'.
I’m sure if I felt free to take several more months hashing this out I could come up with all these side stories. But I feel really pressed to get the episodes coming out before people give up on me, if they haven’t already. So I’m starting to think I’m just going to have to start releasing episodes again, either making these side stories up on the fly, or I’m just going to have to leave some smoking guns smoking for the time being – maybe adding additional scenes to the hard copy edition I plan to publish when the online version of the serial is finished.
Anyway, I’m going to read through the 500 pages of plot and spontaneous first draft dialogue I have one time. Then I’ll be putting it up on the Spectral Shadows Brain Stormers site for interested readers to look at and offer suggestions on ways to fill it out, what to do with all these side stories, and anything else anyone would like to bring to my attention, hash out with me, or suggest for additional scenes.
You’ll have to be a member of the Spectral Shadows Brain Stormers group to see it, though. So if you want to help out, please join. http://ssbrainstormers.livejournal.com/
Anyone who joins can open a topic in the group. You can pick out an area of the story you’re interested in helping flesh out, post your suggestions, and then everyone else can chime in with their ideas. I may not use all suggestions that are offered, but just hearing people talk about my stories tends to get my imagination kicking. So even suggestions not used may be helpful.
Give me a week’s grace to read through this monster and add some notes for the brain stormers. Then it will start to appear on the Brain Stormers site.
Let me see. I can get 10 or so pages in a Live Journal post. That’s what? 50 posts? As Jerry Colona would say, “Egad!”
Will you see spoilers there? Probably. Just be aware that I have never once had a story turn out anything like I originally planned it. So the further down the road we get, the less likely it is that the episodes will look like the synopsis.
Who ever heard of a 500 page synopsis? In other words . . . Help! This project is too big for one bunny!
I'll do what I can to help, but I've never been a good writer :P
Honestly, don't worry too much about people giving up on you because of waiting times. They'll come back when they see that everything's back on schedule :)
