I don't know why I keep breaking my own rules and trying to give Furry message boards a chance. Of all the boards I've tried, Flayrah seemed to have the most potential for being a place where a Furry fan could enjoy being a Furry fan with other Furry fans. But, no, it's just another place where obnoxious people are allowed to flagrantly break the rules, harass and degrade serious posters, and where arguments are constantly cropping up that waste way too much of my time.

I was going to quit last week after an argument that was so pointless I can't even remember what it was about. But then I got to talking to Fred Patten about Oz books and other old stuff, and I was like, this is what I want. Let's see how long this lasts.

It lasted long enough for me to get to the next feature, which was some rapper going for the world record of how much profanity could be squeezed into a five minute track. And the contrast was just too much. I can not rationalize listening to a rhyming dissertation on how much I’m going to enjoy having some slime ball rapper’s dick stuck in me after talking about Oz books.

To make matters worse, the video samples bits of a classic Casper cartoon to put forward the notion that Casper and Ferdie turn people into gay sleaze obsessed degenerates who never have a thought in their heads but sex.

This basically is leading up to a throw down between me and Green Reaper as to "Is this a safe for work site or not," and if it is, "Why don't you enforce your own rules?"

This is not fun. This is not what I want from a fandom experience. Keep your damn sleaze pushers. You don't need me.

It might not be so bad if I felt that anyone on that site was really on my side, but I don't. I really don't think anyone gets the things I say or has any sympathy for where I'm coming from. So it's totally pointless trying to talk sense when you are obviously down the rabbit hole where nonsense has been decreed to be the whole of the law. And since sense is the only language I know, I'm obviously never going to feel at home there.

I quit.

GreenReaper seems fairly nice as an admin, but I agree with your analysis and choice... I've seen some very disturbing postings there once in a while as well.... :/

It's not really Green Reaper that's giving her sass. It's this user on there called "Patch Packrat" who apparently worked on the video. Say anything negative about it and he tries to just destroy you.

I kind of saw this coming and it is unfortunate. I try not to get to pushy with things, you said something about the work and your opinion on it and you got called a homophobe for the trouble and while Patch does critisize niko for being a "kiss ass" however he wasn't involved until Neon got ripped for using that word so haphazardly. Kettle and pots.

Also his statement on "prudes" not being "virtuous" was weird, almost religion-like. Does he believe that being outward with one's sins makes one better then one that keeps one's sins to themselves? Sure "prudes" are sinners too who like to pretend they are more virtuous sometimes, but the thing is everyone has to be a prude in certain situations. I don't think it's possible for Patch to be in suit and getting dry humped by rapers 24/7, or tell everyone he knows about it. Otherwise, I don't think he would be able to remain employed. So once again, pots and kettles.

As soon as that term was used any chance of conversation that would have drawn any good was gone. Certainly it would be a good debate to have on content, and I will certainly be looking into the matter, not just because of this.

I mean, I think Fred has been trying to push his bounds, he keeps publishing content that isn't exactly furry, and recently he blatently said it wasn't furry at all, and it still was published. I know he posts like most of our content, but I think he's waiting to see how far he can make it until GreenReaper says "no", and I don't think he will.

At the end of this kerfuffle though, I have been a bit depressed because stupid and pointless acts have been in the real world news too. People killing others because someone symbolized their prophet, so "acting as his will" they attack(which is somehow not symbolizing their prophet and doing more damage then any back room youtube flick could ever do). But at the end of the day, while the disagreement between "Prudes and Crudes" will remain, it's still a bitter disagreement rather then a riot. Furry at its worst is still not bad as religion at it's worst. I can take some solace in that.

Also, if over time you do look into coming back a useful item that isn't really advertised (and this goes for Patch too as I know they know this journal exists) is

It works on stories and comments, however you'll still be able to see them when they make posts. You'll see the titles of the stories and where they comment, not the content.

In case you're not watching, Patch did apologise in a more recent post:
The post's author, Patch Packrat, reports reacting with uncharacteristic hostility to a few critics, and apologizes to Perri Rhoades for personally attacking her in incredibly mean and unclassy ways above and beyond disagreement, due to personal stress and "triggering" that's better discussed with his therapist than on the Internet. He wishes peace and love to Perri and all members of Furry fandom, and recommends watching movies from John Waters (AKA "The Pope of Trash") to appreciate filth as ridiculous and fun to laugh at.
