In the history of Furry Fandom there is one thing worse than Burned Fur. And that is Counter Burned Fur. Simo is the worst example of a Counter Burned Fur I ever saw - someone so obsessed with Burned Fur that he kept the issue alive far longer than it needed to be by spinning political type propaganda, targeting fans like myself for persecution, and indulging in creative editing with quotes to make others look bad.
The point I was actually trying to make in the article Simo clipped and edited was simply that if everyone in the fandom was a creator, there would be no consumers to buy the things people create. And that it was a professional attitude to create things in a way that they’d be saleable.
At the time I had some ideas about some sites that could have been created to help creators in the fandom market their art. These ideas, whether they were of any positive potential or not, never even got a fair hearing because of Simo’s Counter Burned Fur harassment. To Simo’s type, you either conform to their idea of what a Furry Fan should be, or they try to harass you out of the fandom.
His site, in my opinion, is more of a blight on the fandom than Burned Fur ever was. I would never have even cared to investigate Burned Fur if not for Simo’s site. And all the tensions I had in the fandom in those early years can be directly traced back to my admitting on the Furtopia forums that Simo’s site scared me to the point where I was not sure there was any place for me in the pity party for perpetual losers Simo was making Furry Fandom out to be. Simo then whipped up his Counter Burned Fur contingent into a frenzy to make me the poster child for a Neo-Burned Fur movement that simply did not exist.
Folks new to Furry Fandom should beware. Burned Fur is not a danger. The actual Burned Fur incident amounted to nothing but a forum flame war that got a little out of hand, but quickly passed as is the way of all such flame wars. It is the mythos that has been built up around the term Burned Fur by these Counter Burned Fur militants that is the real curse on Furry Fandom. So take note that the minute you see anybody whip the term Burned Fur out to counter someone whose opinion they don’t like, you should be extremely cautious about taking anything that person says seriously.
