Sadly, Underdog isn't in the parade anymore :( He was taken out a few years back, and replaces by either Shrek or Buzz Lightyear (I don't recall which). Which really sucks, because Underdog is one of the cartoons I adored as a kid, and still watch today on the DVD set. Heck, I even hastily made a costume for my fursuit as him for my office's Halloween contest this year.
*sigh* I miss the little rhyming mutt.
That's a great pickup tho; anything Underdog related is neat to have in a collection ^.^
Ten years ago this past April, the Underdog balloon from the Macy's Parade was brought out of retirement to grace the beach in Ocean City NJ for the character's 35th TV anniversary during the annual DooDah Parade. This was at the urging of Suzanne Muldowney, known to some as "The (crazy) Underdog Lady" (seen once on Howard Stern's old late night comedy TV show).canadian_beast
in anchoring the parade coverage for my TV show as Henrietta Chicken said it best..."There's no need to fear...the Underdog balloon is here!"
Wow, thanks for posting those. Could have sworn I saw him in the parade last year. Maybe they showed some old footage of it or something.
Say, Rapid, as long as I've got you on the line, could I get you to post in this entry? http://symphonic-rp.livejournal.com/87066.html
I need info on your TV show so I can enter it in The Furry Entertainment Chronology. And I'd admire to have your input on anything else I've missed that should be included.

There is this OTHER Underdog balloon
Maybe it was this balloon you saw. There are a whole bunch of presently comissioned cartoon character (some retro) balloons that fly at various non-Macy's
holiday parades across the country. I videotaped this one last year at the UBS Holiday Spectacular Parade in Stamford CT when I was covering the event for my TV show. I only remembered just now when I was copying that show for a rerun this month.
All of the balloons that are in the Macy's Parade are exclusive to them so I don't know who owns these ones, especially considering they include characters that haven't been on TV in years like Bullwinkle Moose. For example, Macy's no longer flies their Big Bird balloon but there is one in these other parades.
